1940-2005

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Michael Sheard, who played the unfortunate Admiral Ozzel in "The Empire Strikes Back," died Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the age of 65.
He died in his home on the Isle of Wight after a battle with cancer, according to published reports.

Sheard was born June 18, 1940 in Aberdeen, Scotland and was the son of a minister of the kirk. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and later served two years in the Royal Air Force.

He began winning British TV roles in the '60s on shows like "Dixon of Dock Green" and "Crossroads." He appeared in numerous "Doctor Who" episodes over 20 years, and was seen as a possible candidate to play Doctor Who at one point. He was also known as the terrifying teacher Mr. Bronson on the teen soap "Grange Hill."

Sheard played Adolph Hitler four times on TV and once on the big screen in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." His career was also dotted with roles as Heinrich Himmler (in two films and one mini-series) and various other Nazi-era Germans.

American audiences will best remember him as Admiral Ozzel, whose death George Lucas considered one of the best in film. In the scene, Darth Vader speaks to the Admiral on screen and uses the force to strangle him to death from afar. Sheard capitalized on his "Star Wars" fame by frequenting sci-fi conventions. His film career spans more than 30 years, and he's worked opposite Lawrence Olivier, Sean Connery, Roger Moore and David Niven.

Sheard wrote a multi-part autobiography, beginning with "Yes, Mr. Bronson: Memoirs of a Bum Actor." A portion of the sales from the fourth volume was used to raise money for cancer research.

Sheard is survived by his wife, Ros, and three children.

Okay I just realized that Ive posted like 3 quizzes in a row and while they are all interesting quizzes, the year is not 2002 and I am not a newbie. (Does anybody even use that term anymore?) So here is the short update for the last few weeks.

I had what was described to me as bubblegut a few weekends back. For those of you who know me or who have met me in person bubblegut does not mean chubby (though I am) it described the feeling of bubbles in your gut i.e. a really horrible stomach bug. It was some sort of record for me because over the course of 4 days I only farted 3 times...and that, for anyone who really knows me is almost impossible. Anyhow I missed the local comic book and sci-fi convention as a result and that was the real bummer.

Been catching up on Battlestar Galactica and an older Steven Bochco show called Murder One which covered one homicide case over the course of a whole season. Both excelent and both very continuity heavy, meaning that if you jump in the show in the middle youd have no idea where you were. I love shows that have continuity like that, Deadwood, Lost, 24 all do that and I love them all.

All pretty good but Ive started watching the original Star Wars trilogy again and while it is very cool to see them in a new light with Episodes I-III complete they just do not hold any sort of candle to Hamil, Ford and Fisher back in the day.

The new apartment is great except for the broken dishwasher which is being fixed even as I type this and the dog pooing all over kingdom come but Ive come to realize that that is more a problem of Jacquie and I being lazy then the dog not alerting us. If we just walked her when we were supposed to then Lola probably wouldnt feel the need to shit on the carpet.

First round of bills is paid for and rent is due in 5 days but we should be ok. The honeymoon is almost paid for (were going to Acapulco on a cruise!!!) as is the wedding in Vegas so as the day grows nearer I get more nervous but feel more and more prepared and in love so Im not worried.

Ummmmm......

Does that face that I had a banana, a granola bar and a can of Coca-Cola Zero for breakfast count as news?

Oh man...getting up to go to the bathroom six times in the middle of the night is never fun. Especially when cramps are involved and I had to cancel plans I made today. I dont know what I ate or drank but dang...last night was miserable. And then Jacquie jumped on the bed and rattled my innards. So I guess what Im saying is I felt justified in sleeping from 12:30am to 3:30pm. Its only one day right?

I want to write hour long television shows especially if they are science fiction or supernatural related. Currently I am working in post-produiction and while I enjoy it it just isn't creative enough. So I need to write a spec script of an hour long TV show that is currently popular and can showcase an ability to tell an hour long story arc possible in service of an over all season arc. Any suggestions? What is hot out there right now? I spend too much time watching Doctor Who and old episodes of Murder One.

December 1 is always a date that marks a huge change in my life. 24 years ago today my father was killed. Plain and simple. Alot of peoples fathers die I know but to have it happen when I was so young forever marked me. Believe it or not thats not what this post is really about...its about the change thats coming in my life now. I guess its just coming to a head today. Many of my lifelong friends have moved to other states. My brother who has been my partner forever might be moving to NY too. Im finally moving out of my childhood home in a few weeks I hope and I want to make sure that it goes smoothly and I need to know that my change is change for other people in my life as well. I feel my core group of friends slipping away. Were not any less closer but distance and responsibility is stepping in. Pile on top of that getting ready for the holidays and my chronic health business and you get one frazzled and a little frightened Gabe. I know that no one is abandoning me. I know that no one loves me any less. Its just things are changing and Ive never dealt with change well. Im in love...truly madly deeply and Im so blessed to have her as my partner. She is my buoy and my life saver. But nonethelesll Im scared and worried and I just want everything to go well. I just needed to get that off my chest before I exploded in a flood of tears and sighs. Thanks for listening.
